Mark LaJoye is a decorated veteran, seasoned law enforcement professional, and dedicated community leader with nearly 50 years of service to our country and local communities. His unwavering commitment to safety, integrity, and public service is what drives his mission to serve as the next Mayor of Columbus.
Proven Leadership in Uniform and Beyond
Mark’s distinguished career began with 41 years of service in the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Interim Command Sergeant Major for Special Operations Forces. In this role, he led operations and managed over $1 billion in equipment and personnel. He also served in both Afghanistan and Iraq, gaining deep expertise in strategic planning, crisis response, and team leadership.
In parallel with his military service, Mark dedicated over 14 years to law enforcement, serving in specialized units including SWAT, Vice/Narcotics, Fugitive Recovery, and as an FBI-trained Bomb Technician. He was recognized with multiple commendations for bravery, performance, and his relentless commitment to public safety.
A Track Record of Accountability and Fiscal Responsibility
In addition to his frontline leadership, Mark served as a Program Manager overseeing more than $468 million in military contracts, demonstrating his ability to manage large budgets with precision and transparency. His experience managing high-stakes operations gives him the tools to run a city with both efficiency and responsibility.
Deep Roots in the Columbus Community
Mark has called Columbus home for over two decades. He is a longtime member of St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic Churchand an active supporter of community organizations such as the Knights of Columbus. Mark’s faith, while quiet, shines through in his service to others and his dedication to doing what’s right—even when no one is watching.
He has also served as Director of Training and Operations at Legion OTG (Operator Training Group) in Blakely, GA, where he trains the next generation of military and law enforcement personnel in tactical awareness, leadership, and intelligence operations.
